The Compton Family Missionary Work in Brazil

To all who love the Lord and are called into His Wondrous Grace:

Sweetest greetings in the precious name of Jesus. Please allow us to introduce ourselves. We are Brother and Sister Compton from O'Fallon, Illinois. We are members of Calvary Pentecostal Church, where Rev. and Sister Cobb pastor. Brother Compton and I are Oneness, Jesus Name, holiness believers. We feel the call of God to assist the Alvear family and become missionaries to Brazil. As such, we will facilitate the building of churches and aid in taking the gospel to different areas of Brazil where the 'Jesus Name' message is practically unknown.

Recently, Brother and Sister Alvear's health has declined. Therefore, Brother Compton and I want to be their hands and feet. With the help of the Lord, we may be able to travel into villages that their health will not allow them to go. We have sold all our possessions, including our house and furniture. We will be leaving with nothing but our clothes. We are privileged to have the opportunity to work under the Alvear family.

I have just returned from a two week's stay in Brazil. This was the start of the brand new effort to help the Alvears. Just being there a few days, I saw many things we could do to lighten the heavy load they are carrying. We spent four days evangelizing in a little village in the state of Ceara to a people who had never heard of oneness or Jesus Name baptism. We held our first services in a prostitutes home, but a nightclub owner allowed us the use of his establishment for our last service. We knew God had moved for us, because the owner of the nightclub was a former prisoner who was less than friendly to Christians. Present during our last service were over 125 people, including six Catholics, who prayed at the alter and several Trinitarians inquiring about baptism.

God moved in a mighty way. I remember praying with the prostitute. As the tears ran down her face and mine, I thought how much God loves the prostitute as much as he loves us. Someone must be willing to go and take the gospel to the prostitutes and drunks as well as the doctors and lawyers. These people had sat in spiritual darkness all their lives. My husband and I desire to break through their dark world and bring to them the light of Jesus Christ. We commit ourselves to this distant mission field to make a difference in the hearts of men and women by giving them a message of a sure hope and build on the foundations of the apostles doctrine.

Sis. Alvear's start

Janice Taylor forsook her comfortable life here in America and moved to Brazil at the age of eighteen. There she married Raul Alvear, and together they have been doing the work of the Lord. They have been missionaries to Brazil for the past 38 years and have established, from scratch, hundreds of churches ranging from North to South Brazil.
